Playground Safety Guidelines & Standards
ISO for Worldwide:

ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, is a global standardization organization that provides international standards for a variety of products, services, and systems. In the amusement equipment industry, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are particularly important, focusing on quality management systems and environmental management systems, respectively. The ISO standard is one of the most commonly used international safety standards because almost every country accepts it. NanPlay indoor playgrounds also meet the requirements of ISO standards in all aspects.

EN 1176 for Europe:

EN 1176 is a comprehensive set of safety standards for European amusement equipment. These standards cover the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of amusement equipment. EN1176 includes EN1176-10, EN1176-1, EN1176-3, and is a European safety standard for indoor and outdoor playgrounds. NanPlay has been working with many customers from European countries for many years. NanPlay indoor playgrounds can meet the EN1176 standard and pass the inspection of local safety departments. We provide peace of mind for parents and playground operators to ensure that our equipment is safe for children to use.

EN 71 for Europe:

EN 71 specifies the safety requirements for toys sold in the European Union, including mechanical and physical properties, flammability, and chemical composition. The standard has been published in 13 parts, from EN 71-1 to EN 71-13. NanPlay complies with the EN 71 standard to ensure that the equipment is non-toxic and harmless in design and materials, and has no potential hazards such as sharp edges, providing a safe play environment for children.

EU REACH Regulation (EC) for Europe:

REACH is a European Union regulation covering the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical Substances. EU REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 is a safety certification for toys and childcare articles that do not contain phthalates. NanPlay complies with REACH regulations to ensure that our play equipment and trampoline equipment do not contain hazardous substances, reflecting our responsibility and commitment to environmental protection.

CE for Europe:

The CE mark is a passport for products to enter the European Economic Area (EEA) market, indicating that the product meets health, safety and environmental standards. The term originally used was “EC mark”, which was officially replaced by “CE mark” in Directive 93/68/EEC in 1993. CE is a very important safety standard in Europe, and all indoor playgrounds should comply with CE standards if they enter the European market. As a professional exporter of indoor playground equipment, NanPlay has long-term cooperative relationships with many European customers.

ASTM F1918 for North America:

ASTM is a globally recognized standards development organization founded in 1898. ASTM develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a variety of materials, products, systems and services. ASTM F1487 is the safety standard for amusement equipment in the North American market, and ASTM F1918 is the standard safety performance specification for soft enclosed amusement equipment. NanPlay can meet local safety standards and pass North American safety inspections.

NanPlay Playground Safety Checklist

To address safety concerns with each of our play structures, NanPlay follows a strict set of playground safety guidelines. Our checklist includes the following key factors:

Playground Users

Before planning a playground, the first question we should ask ourselves is, who will use the playground? We recognize that children need different types of activities and equipment at different stages of development, and we should create dedicated areas and equipment for children of different ages from toddlers to teenagers to ensure safety during play. From toddlers who have just learned to walk to older kids who like adventure, every child can find their own fun in a safe and colorful environment.

01
Safety Surfacing

One of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of injury is by protecting the surface. We recommend regular inspection and maintenance of floor covering. Whether it is deep loose fill, rubber mulch, resilient tiles, a single safety surface, or a combination of these, all areas should be inspected in detail. Particular attention should be paid to the integrity and wear of the floor covering, ensuring that nothing is loose or damaged. Also check that the floor covering meets accessibility standards and is accessible to children in wheelchairs.

02
Safety Spacing

AProper safe spacing between equipment is important to prevent overcrowding and reduce the risk of collisions. We recommend clear pathways and buffer zones around equipment to allow for safe movement. Playground layouts should avoid creating hidden or narrow spaces to prevent children from becoming trapped or injured.

03
Environmental conditions

Outdoor play presents environmental challenges. To avoid sun-related issues, we recommend planting trees or installing shade structures around the playground. To minimize water damage or slips from rain, we recommend ensuring there is good drainage to prevent standing water and slip accidents.

04
Rules & Regulations

Our checklist includes not only strict compliance with industry regulations and certifications, but also a comprehensive internal audit process. We ensure that each piece of equipment meets established safety standards, from design and production to installation and maintenance, every link must be strictly controlled.

05
Playground Cleaning

Regular play equipment cleaning and surrounding areas is important to maintaining a sanitary and safe environment. We recommend a comprehensive cleaning program that includes removing trash, checking for hidden dangers, and using safe, non-toxic cleaning products.
