How to Organise an Easter Egg Hunt on the Playground?

Date : Nov 9, 2024 Views :

The annual Easter Egg Hunt is just around the corner! With a tradition of Easter egg hunts dating back to the 17th century, egg hunts are one of the most exciting parts of the Easter celebration and one of the most anticipated events for kids every year. Are you wondering how to start planning the perfect Easter Egg Hunt? 8 easy steps to planning an epic Easter Egg Hunt with ease!

8 Easy Steps to Plan an Epic Easter Egg Hunt

Step 1: Set the Date

Easter egg hunts are usually held on Easter Sunday, which is traditional, but not required. In addition to organizing their own events, some people will be attending church or other religious services on Easter Day. In order for more people to be able to participate, it is a good idea to hold the egg hunt a week in advance of the weekend, and it can even be carried over to the following week of Easter to hold it, not just limited to the weekend. It’s also important to note what time of day is best to hold the event. For families with young children who need to nap, mornings may be best.

Step 2: Choose the Location

Once you’ve decided on a date and time, choose the location for your egg hunt. Whether it’s your own backyard,  community center, or at a park, choose an area that’s large enough for the egg hunt, but not so large that kids won’t be able to find the eggs. Spring weather can be unpredictable, so in the event of inclement weather, it is recommended that you choose an indoor location to hold the hunt, such as an indoor playground, which is a top choice regardless of the weather. Facilities such as slides, climbing structures, trampolines, and mazes can be used as creative egg hiding spots.

Step 3: Decorate the Playground

Decorate the egg hunt playground of your choice to create a festive feel. Choose classic Easter elements such as colorful eggs, Easter bunnies, chicks, flowers, butterflies, baskets, ribbons, etc. to decorate the playground. Set up directional signs with colorful egg motifs to guide children to different egg hiding spots. Use playground equipment to set up creative egg hiding spots, such as decorating the bottom of slides as “egg holes,” hiding eggs in sandboxes, setting up egg hiding spots on top of or in the middle of climbing frames, and setting up hidden eggs in mazes and tunnels, and so on. Play Easter-themed music in your indoor playground to add to the festive atmosphere. You can also set up a DIY egg decorating area where children can participate in egg decorating activities before going on an egg hunt.

Step 4: Prepare Easter Eggs

Easter egg hunts require the preparation of a large number of eggs, either real eggs or plastic eggs. If preparing real eggs, it is recommended to cook and dye the eggs a week in advance (remember they are not safe to eat). If you have a lot of invited small children coming to the event, plastic or wooden colorful eggs will be safer and easier to prepare. If you are using plastic eggs, fill them with fun small items such as chocolate eggs, fudge, stuffed animals, hair clips, finger cookies, fruit snacks, etc. If there are many young children participating in the activity, please be mindful of small items that could cause choking. We recommend hiding approximately 12 colorful eggs per child, depending on the age group.

Step 5: Get Easter Egg Baskets & Buckets Ready

Easter egg baskets or buckets are used to hold the eggs that are found, but not everyone remembers to bring them. We want to have a container ready for all who come to the hunt to collect eggs, or set up a DIY egg container area at the playground where participants can make their own Easter baskets and buckets before the hunt. In addition to the baskets and buckets, you can also prepare some Easter gift bags as an added bonus to the egg hunt.

Step 6: Count the Eggs

Before hiding the eggs, you need to count the number of eggs. Make sure there are enough eggs hidden in each playground area. By counting again after the egg hunt, you will know if there are still eggs left to be found, so that you don’t miss any.

Step 7: Hide the Eggs

Depending on the age and ability of the children, hide the eggs in different places. For younger children, you can hide the eggs in more visible areas of the playground, such as the bottom of the slide, the playground floor, the sandbox, around the swings, and other safer areas. For older children, eggs can be hidden in more challenging places such as mazes, tunnels, tops of climbing frames, etc. Egg clues can also be set up by hiding hints or riddles in different areas of the playground, and participants need to follow the clues to find the eggs hidden in different places step by step.

Step 8: Easter Themed Playground Activities

To enrich your Easter egg hunt, you can incorporate Easter themed playground activities into your egg hunt. Here are 3 Egg Hunt ideas:

Easter Egg Relay

Split the children into two or more teams and the first member of each team runs with the eggs in hand to the designated end point at the beginning of the game, completing the designated obstacles (climbing structures, slides, etc.) without letting the eggs fall, placing them in the basket or bucket at the designated end point, and returning to the starting point. Each team member has to complete his/her part and the team that completes the relay task the fastest wins.

Easter-themed Obstacle Course

Design an obstacle course with Easter elements and divide the children into two or more teams. Participants need to pass through obstacles such as climbing frames, swings, slides, etc., while searching for hidden eggs along the way. Each team member takes a turn going through the obstacles and collecting the eggs, and finally placing all the eggs in a container at the finish line. The first team to complete the task wins.

Easter Egg Hunt

Set up Easter-related mini games such as riddles, searching for hidden egg patterns, Easter song performances, etc. near each egg hiding spot in the playground, and children need to complete these tasks before they can move on to the next egg.

Benefits of Hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at the Playground

Still wondering where to throw your Easter Egg Hunt? Whether you’re hosting a family gathering or a community event, a playground is the perfect choice! Here are the benefits of hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at a playground:

Spacious Activity Areas

Playgrounds offer a spacious event space that lends itself to multiple egg hunt areas, and participants won’t feel crowded during the hunt. Using playground equipment for Easter activities adds to the fun by setting up egg hiding spots on climbing frames, slides, and other features that allow kids to climb on the rides as they search.

Rich Amusement Facilities

In addition to egg hunts, the playground has a variety of recreational equipment such as slides, swings, merry-go-rounds, climbing frames, etc. Children are able to continue to play with their friends in the playground after the egg hunts are over, and parents are able to relax in the playground’s rest area.

High Safety

The playground area is designed and regularly maintained by specialists, and the safety facilities are perfect and accurate. The playground is also equipped with security personnel and emergency response measures, where children and parents can enjoy the Easter Egg Hunt without worrying about the safety of their children.
